KERATOACANTHOMA ( KA )
A Keratoacanthoma, (KA), can look like an SCC but is actually a benign lesion that will eventually disappear. However, Keratoacanthomas should be treated for several reasons. Firstly, it is not always possible to be sure the lesion is a Keratoacanthoma and not a true skin cancer. Sometimes what looks like a KA may be a Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Secondly, a KA is usually unsightly, may be painful and can become very large before it regresses and resolves. Finally, the scar which results from treating a Keratoacanthoma may be less than if it is left to resolve spontaneously. KAs are usually treated by excision.
